2005 (9/7 - 16/7) - Sydney NSW

The state under 19 team was announced at Bendigo Junior Tournament on May 21st 2005.

Teams Event report - Lenny Permana

The Victorians under 19 team lost to Northern Region (New Zealand) in the final of the team events. The score was 10-6.


The team did well in the beginning by leading 3-1 out of 4 doubles which played first. Second doubles boys and girls: Luke Chong/Einstein Tanaka beat Sean Willins/Dean Nuttal and Victoria Na/Louise McKenzie contributed the second points for the team. The first doubles: Jeff Tho/Saliya Gunaratne lost to Chance Cheng/Henry Tam and Ann-Slee/Eugenia Tanaka won the girls doubles for the team.


All the boys singles lost to the Kiwi’s (Jeff Tho, Luke Chong, Einstein Tanaka and Boris Ma) respectively to Chance Cheng, Henry Tam, Dean Nuttal and Brent Miller.


The Victorian girls singles only managed to win 1 singles out of 4 singles. Erica Pong, Victoria Na & Ann-Slee lost to Vicky Copeland, Danielle Barry and Emma Rodgers. Louise McKenzie contributed another point for the team by winning versus Samantha.


These made the NZ team leading 8-4 by the end of the singles.


The 4th mixed doubles was played first: Saliya Gunaratne/Shan Lim lost to Brent Miller/Emma Rodgers. The NZ team then lead 9-4 points and took the team events title.


Luke Chong/Eugenia Tanaka & Einstein Tanaka/Erica Pong contributed the next two points for the team and Jeff Tho’s did not play because of injury.


Individual Events report - Lenny Permana

The next day straight away started the individual events and all the players did well. Most of them managed to get through to the second round.


Plate Events Louise McKenzie and Ann-Slee lost in the first round of the singles to the same opponent Danielle Barry from New Zealand. Ann-Slee and Louise both played in the final plate events girls singles at the end. Won by Louise McKenzie.


Boris Ma/Victoria Na also lost in the mixed lost first round versus Brent Miller/Emma Rodgers from New Zealand. Boris and Victoria won the mixed doubles plate events at the end.


Girls Singles We have 4 girls singles (Erica, Vicky, Eugenia and Shan) in the second round, but only 3 managed to get through to the third round. Shan Lim lost to Emma Rodgers from New Zealand. Eugenia lost against Leanne Choo from South Australia in the thrid round. Erica beat Danielle Barry and Vicky beat Emma Rodgers in the quarters. Erica then beat Leisha Cooper from W.A. and Victoria beat Spoorti Rattan, both girls then proceed to the final to meet each other.


Boys Singles The boys singles (Jeff, Luke, Einstein, Saliya and Boris), all of them managed to get through to the third round. Boris lost to Chance Cheng and Saliya lost to Henry Tam at the end of the third round. Einstein lost to Jeff and Luke lost to Brent Miller in the quarter final. Jeff beat Henry in the semi-final and lost to Chance Cheng in the final.


Girls Doubles The girls doubles: Eugenia Tanaka/Shan Lim won the girls doubles title beat Louise McKenzie/Melanie Hill (W.A.) and Ann-Slee/Leisha Cooper in the final. Well done again Shan & Eugenia. Erica/Vicky lost to Ann-Slee/Leisha Cooper in the semi-final.


Boys Doubles The boys doubles: Saliya/Boris lost in the second round versus Sean Lim/Edward Ratanasena (NSW). Jeff Tho/Kenny Ng (NSW) and Luke/Einstein, however managed to get through to the semi-final. Luke/Einstein lost to Chance/Henry in the semi, but Jeff/Kenny through to the final by beating Chad Whitehead/Mark Prior (S.A). Jeff/Kenny lost to Chance/Henry in the final.


Mixed Doubles The mixed doubles: several Victorians were in the quarters: Luke/Eugenia, Kenny Ng (NSW)/Louise McKenzie, Einstein/Erica and Jeff/Ann-Slee. Saliya/Shan lost to Jeff/Ann-Slee in the third round. Luke/Eugenia lost to Kenny/Louise and Einstein/Erica lost to Brent Miller/Emma Rodgers in the quarters. Kenny/Louise lost to Henry Tam/Vicky Copeland in the semi while Jeff/Ann-Slee proceed to the final by beating Brent Miller/Emma Rodgers from NZ. Jeff and Ann-Slee took the mixed doubles title at the end versus Henry/Vicky Copeland from NZ.
